Paul Eugene HempyPlumberPaul Eugene Hempy, 88 of Prospect, died Monday December 22, 2025 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Tina Hempy.

He was born April 16, 1937 in Delaware County to the late Charles and Iva (Hughes) Hempy. He was also preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Sally A. (Toombs) Hempy, a son, Paul D. Hempy, grandson, Marcus J. Williams, two sisters, Ethel Moreland and Trudy Johnston, a brother, Robert Hempy, a brother-in-law, Ron Dienst and two infant siblings, Harold and Linda.

Paul had worked at Whirlpool for 16 years and at the same time learned the plumbing & heating business as an apprentice to Kenny Davids. After 16 years at Whirlpool he retired and became a full-time plumber, opening his own business with his two sons.

Paul spent 24 winters at his Florida home in Largo. He loved helping the whole community with plumbing jobs and maintenance around the park. He received an award for all his volunteer work; the people absolutely loved him down there. He also enjoyed going to the flea market with his best friend, Obie Spicer from Kentucky.

Paul was a member of the former Prospect Lodge #444 Free & Accepted Masons. He also served on the board of the Sunswim Pool and took care of all their plumbing for many years.

For his 88th birthday his family threw him a big surprise party and he said it was the best birthday he ever had. He also got to spend time going out to dinner with very good friends, Ilah and Ernie. Paul’s favorite country singer was George Jones and he loved to sit and listen to his music for hours and every once in a while could be heard singing along.

Paul loved dogs and several years ago lost his best friend, Tia. He never got another dog, but he sure enjoyed all his children’s dogs, especially wiener dog, Lewey.

He is survived by his children, Judy (Frank) White, Marysville; Debby (Bill) Williams, Marysville; Mark (Tina) Hempy, Prospect; sister, Dixie Dienst, Delaware; sister-in-law, Phyllis Hempy, Waldo; daughter-in-law, Laurie Hempy; grandchildren, Stacy Hinchley, Lori Tackett, Ashley (Zach) Cox, Matt Williams, Michael (Ashley) Hempy, Jennifer Hempy, Sarah Hempy, Jessica (Zach) Craig, Lindsay Hempy; three step-grandchildren, Katie (Dustin) Litteral, Carrie (Jeremy) Fout, Josh White; seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home is assisting the family. The family would like to thank Tranquility Hospice, especially Becky. Special thanks to Tina who took such devoted and loving care of her father-in-law.

Graveside services will be held Saturday January 3, 2026 at 11:00 am the Prospect Cemetery, Pastor Steve Whitaker will officiate. Deepest sympathy to the family.  Paul built his house on what was my Uncle Jim Gast property.  My husband, George and I would stop in to see him when we were in the area after Jim died.  One of the funniest memories was when we went down to help his sister, Betty with Jim’s estate sale.  George was handling the sale of items in the workshop and barns.  George sold an item from a barn. Paul laughed about it as it wasn’t Jim’s.  Paul said he told the person that owned it to get it out if there but they didn’t.
