Robert Gene WileyMasonryRobert Gene Wiley, 90 of Richwood, died Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at Heritage of Marysville.

He was born July 21, 1934 in Watkins to the late Charles C. and Emma Dell (Clapsaddle) Lingo. On February 20, 1955 he married the former Peggy P. Boyd and she died October 10, 2013. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jim Wiley.

Gene had worked at Parker Hannifin in Green Camp for 48 years as a Production Manager. He was Past Master of Mt. Carmel #303 Free & Accepted Masons in Richwood. He was a member of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus, and Aladdin Shriners.

He had a passion for harness racing and was a member of the United States Trotting Association, Richwood Matinee Club, Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association, Licensed Official (Presiding Judge) of the Ohio State Racing Commission.

Gene served on various Boards of Education since 1971, including North Union Local Board of Education for 16 years, the Union County Board of Education until it merged with Delaware County Board. He was then appointed and subsequently elected to North Central Ohio Education Service Center, and appointed to Tri Rivers Career Center Board. He earned the Distinguished Board Member award for The Ohio School Boards Association.

He is survived by three daughters, Cathy Pratt, Covington, Georgia; Connie (Peter) Carroll, Kalamazoo, Michigan; Christy Wiley, Dublin; seven grandchildren, Amanda (Daniel) Caraway, Kara Pratt, Erica (Nate) Whitt, Brendan (Amber) Carroll, Josh (Cait) Seckel, Molly (Russ) Clark, Sean (Sophia) Carroll; seven great-grandchildren, Natalie Parham, Colton, Grace and Emma Whitt, Baker Seckel, Everett Carroll, Will Clark; a sister, Barbara Tallman, West Mansfield, and companion, Nancy Meister, Byhalia.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 31, 2025 at 6:00 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Jim Gardner officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service, beginning at 5:00 PM. Masonic services will be conducted by Mt. Carmel #303 F&AM.

Gene was one of the good guys in racing.  I had the pleasure to know Gene for more than 50 years and worked with him  as a racing official  many times.  He  had a great life.

My deepest condolences to Gene's family. He was always such a kind wonderful soul and I will miss our good times of going out with him and Nancy. To be absent from the body is to be in the presence of the Lord, and I can't think of a better place to be. Take comfort in knowing this is only a temporary separation.
