Etta Mae HittRed Rose2Etta Mae Hitt, 93 of Richwood, died Saturday morning March 22, 2025 at the home of her daughter in Richwood.

She was born May 28, 1931 in Richwood to the late David Lawrence and Mary Leah (Beard) Beard. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter C. Hitt, they were married September 10, 1954 and he died December 21, 1987. She was also predeceased by a son-in-law, Michael Coats, a grandson, Dennis Wesley Nickleson Jr., three sisters, five brothers, two half-sisters and four half-brothers.

Etta Mae was a homemaker. She was a former member of the Somersville Friends Church, where she had been active with their Ladies Aide. She loved her animals; dogs, cats and watching the birds. She was a good baker; her family loved her homemade bread and potato salad.

Surviving are her children, Walter W. Hitt of Marion, Miriam Marie Coats of West Mansfield and Mildred Dee (Dennis) Nickleson of Richwood.
Grandchildren, Tammy Hitt, Mareda Jo Brewer, Marsha (Kevin) Fausnaugh, Melinda (Donnie) Brown, James (Emily) Blue, Josh Blue, Marianne (Jeremy Erdy) Wilgus, Doug (Nena Woods) Nickleson and Andy Nickleson
17 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren

Graveside services will be held Friday March 28, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Claibourne Cemetery. Pastor Jacob Gilliam will officiate.

The Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home is assisting the family.
