Mary Maxine Bumgartner

Mary Maxine Bumgartner, age 93 of Prospect, died early Monday, November 23, 2009 at Marion General Hospital.  She was born February 12, 1916 in Prospect to the late Hayes E. and Ida Lou (Williams) Darst. In 1934 she met Isaac Bumgartner and after getting married on August 30, 1938 they honeymooned in Niagara Falls, Canada.  Isaac died July 11, 1986. She was a 1934 graduate of Prospect High School.  A music lover, she had sung and played piano and enjoyed playing the lead in school musicals.  She was a life-long farm wife and worked as a tour guide at the Harding Home in the 1960’s.  She was a member of the former Zion United Church of Christ in Prospect.  Mary loved to watch and feed her doves , tend to her flowers and see her children and grandchildren.  She also loved her snacks, ice cream being her favorite. She is survived by a son, Darus (Sue) Bumgartner, Marion; two daughters, Mary (Tim) Shoewalter, Marion; Kay (Tim) Bishop, Radnor; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a son, Gary. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Prospect Cemetery with Pastor Dave Lippert officiating.  In keeping with Mary's wishes, there will be no public calling hours.  Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Prospect is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial gifts may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society(www.leukemia-lymphoma.org) or the Central Ohio Diabetes Association(www.diabetesohio.org). I was working today and unable to attend the service. As a child I used to enjoy going to Aunt Maxine's and Uncle Isaac's house to ride the rocking horse and watch my dad and Uncle Isaac play pool.
