This is late, obviously, as I was searching for old army buds . I shared times with mike in baumholder, Germany. We had deep philosophical conversations, and listened to music together a lot. He turned me on to Kansas, my favorite group still to this day, also led zeppelin. I have missed him since 1985, and have searched for him periodically over the years. He was a kind man, we discussed religion a lot. He spoke of Kent state and rugby often. He is still missed and my thoughts and prayers are with his family. He was a blessing to me.

Dear Penry Family,
We want you to know that it was very hard for us to open the paper today and see that Michael had left us so unexpectantly. He was a nice and considerate man. We know how difficult this time is going to be for Michael's family and friends so, please know that we are keeping all of you in our hearts and prayers.
Sincerely,
The Staff of the Marion CBOC

To Mike's family:
Mike and I grew up together in Marion, Ohio. I moved away when I was 16 and we lost touch with each other. I am surprised that we did not run into each other during our years in the military. Seems that we were both in Germany and Desert Storm at the same time. I was known as Mike Shook back then and remember all of the good times Mike and I had shared. There isn't a time when I talk about my childhood that Mike doesn't come up in the conversation. I had just been speaking to my wife about him a few weeks ago and she suggested I try to locate him. I remember his sister, Karen who was a few years older than I. I would like to hear from her. Anyway, my sincere condolences are with you and your family.
I have many fun memories of MIke. As one veteran to another, I salute you!

I sadly send my regrets for your loss. I met met Mike shortly after being discharged from the U.S. Army. We worked together at Stofcheck Ambulance in Marion. I enjoyed being around Mike, but had lost contact several years back.
I hope your memories will be of the good times.

I will Sadly miss Mike. I had some great times with Mike For several years we were always together. Even though Life's differnces tend to make friends drift apart we would still talk from time to time. I got to know his mom and sisters and they felt like an extension of my family. I share your pain and miss all the good times we had together. Mike was like a brother to me and knowing he will not be there to call and joke around with leaves an empty spot in my heart. There are stories of my adventures with Mike that I will tell to my grandchildren and hopefully this will help keep his memory. If any of you need anything Just E-mail and Jackie should have my number. Love you all
MIke used to love the doors and would sing "Break on thru to the other side" I guess you made it hope to see you there.

Hi,
I knew Mike and his dad. Mike's dad was my scout master when I was in 6th or 7th grade. His Dad was a great guy. So was Mike. I remember when we cornered a possum in McKinley Park. I of course I wanted to take him home as a pet. Mike and his Dad told me that to be friends with the animal we had to let him be free. Mike was wise and kind back then. His Dad was a very understanding and giving man. Even though I moved away in 8th grade to Denver, Mike and Mike's dad lesson have stayed with me. When I remember Mike as a boy,, he was a very fast runner. He always had a great smile and an easy laugh. I was very lucky to have know Mike as a boy. He was a very good Irish boy. Now that he's in heaven,, I hope Mike can fly down to Colorado, and blow a warm wind on my shoulders. I have a feeling he will have his hands full watching over his loved ones as a guardian angel. Good Journey Mike.

Mr. Penry and family, I am struck by your loss. Please accept my condolences. Even though it has been so many years since I last saw Mike, he is always a person that when I think of him, I smile. The time that Mike, Russ Daum and I spent together was always a time I have treasured. Always a debate lurking while in his presence with a new and different perspective in looking at something. I will never forget the times when we were together. Blessings to you all.

I am so saddened to hear of Mike's passing. Mike and I were classmates since elementary school. His Dad (John) was my Cub Scout Webelos Leader and we had great times at their house after school. I remember Mike being very outgoing and friends to everyone. I also remember Karen and what a sweet girl she was.
Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

My love and prayers go out to you at this difficult time. Mike's sister Jacki and I were good friends for a lot of years when we were younger. I remember spending time at the Penry house during that time. I recall Mike being such a funny guy with a great sense of humor. As we grew older I saw him often out and about...he was always so nice and such a gentleman. My deepest sympathy to you.

I have nothing but good to say about Mike. He was the nicest, funniest kid from elementary school and he grew into a really cool teenager and friend. I moved away from Marion City when I was younger, but Mike and I would bump into eachother as we had mutual friends. I don't know what happened to him, but he will be missed by many, I am sure. I was saddened to see Trent Cook was in the paper too. Two of the nicest red-headed boys God ever created. I served in the Marine Corp, so I can appreciate Mike's time in the service. God Speed King-Mike ! I loved your poem ! Sincerely, Julie
