Jeffrey L. "Griff" Griffith
Jeffrey L. Golf GreenJeffrey L. "Griff" Griffith, 62 of Richwood died Sunday, January 15, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving and devoted family following a battle with cancer.

He was born September 4, 1954 in Kenton to William L. and Phyllis I. (Roberts) Griffith.

Griff was a 1972 graduate of North Union High School. He was a gifted athlete who earned all-conference honors in football and was all state in baseball. He worked for 42 years for Ohio Edison as a lineman, a job he cherished, and made many friendships throughout the years traveling all across the United States with his work.

Griff was an avid sportsman and enjoyed many sports throughout his life.  Whatever he did, he did it well, whether it was fast pitch softball, golf or bowling. He was also a true outdoorsman.  He loved fishing and hunting and truly cared about the outdoors.

He was a member of Knights of Pythias, Mt. Carmel Lodge #303 F&AM, AASR Valley of Columbus, Rush Creek United Methodist Church, Pheasants Forever, the former “Sweet 16” golf group, Richwood Golf League and the Marion Country Club.

Family time was very important to Griff, and the regular Thursday family dinners were never missed.  He rarely missed an opportunity to attend one of his kids and grandkids events. Living in the country was also very special to Griff; it was his little “heaven on earth”.

He is survived by his wife, Carmen (Parish) Shields, whom he married August 23, 2014 at the Rush Creek (formerly Essex) United Methodist Church; his mother, Phyllis Griffith, Richwood; his children, Cyndi (Tom) Ross, Richwood; Chrisy (Mike) Visconti, Cardington; B. J. (Jenna) Griffith, Richwood; Will and Warren Shields, Richwood; a sister, Deb Lewis, Richwood; grandchildren, Brennan Griffith, Luke, Leo and Colin Visconti, Austin Schindewolf and Wyatt Griffith; his former wife, Phyllis S. (Mark) Roberts, Marysville; and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Richwood Church of Christ with Pastors Joe Rhea and Mathew Craig officiating.  Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 PM at the church, where a Masonic Service will be held at 8:00 PM.  Burial in Claibourne Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Memorial gifts may be given to the Union County Foundation for the Jeffrey L. “Griff” Griffith Scholarship Fund for North Union Students and the Memorial Hospital Capital Campaign.  Checks should be written to Union County Foundation, with Jeff Griffith in the memo, P. O. Box 608, Marysville, OH  43040

Basketball days were defined by the people that followed us religiously.  Jeff was a permanent fixture in the stands---usually buddied up beside my dad and Stan Wedding.  They'd always arrive long before warm ups even started, with their NU hats embroidered with our numbers, suckers in their mouths, and likely spent the game backseat coaching, repeating their less-than-discreet pointers to their daughters:  use your legs! shoot the ball! make your layups!  They had all the answers!   It's hard to fathom Jeff is gone, but I'm sure he's looking down on the twins and BJ with those grinny eyes with nothing but pride and all the answers...just like the days in the bleachers.

We are so sorry to hear of your loss!  Please know that you are in our prayers!

Following is a scripture we have leaned on during times of loss: "Tears are prayers too.  They travel to God when we can't speak."  ~ Psalm 56:8

Sometimes we haven't known what to pray, but know we need God's strength and love.  Hence, we have found this scripture comforting.  We hope it gives you some comfort during your time of grief.

God is there to support you - even when you don't know how to ask or what to ask for.

Love,
Barry, Jennifer, Bryce, Jordan, and Emily

Dear Carmen, Phyllis, Deb and family,
Even though our family ties have changed, the Griffith family will always hold the fondest of memories.  My girls, Karen Roush Sanchez, Jenny Roush VanMeter and Anna Roush Nelson send their condolences also.  Their grandfather, Marion Griffith (also Griff) was Grandpa Wilbur's brother.  We spend many an evening playing cards with Bill & Phyllis.  Jeff was only 8 at the time.

It always surprised me when Jeff would approach me at a funeral, alumni or party at Jeff and Stacey's.  He was a wonderful young man and you should be very proud to call him husband, son and brother.

Please accept our sincerest sympathy for your loss and know you are in our prayers. Love,  Sue & Ivan Foreman

Chrisy and Michael ~

I am so very sorry for your devastating loss.  My heart is broken for you and your family, and I weep with all of you.

Jesus wept. Tears are a language that He understands. There is not a single one of your tears that goes unseen. “You have collected all my tears and preserved them in your bottle! You have recorded every one in your book.” ~ Psalm 56:8

The only words I have that will, hopefully, offer you some comfort are those of promise . . . the promise that He will make all things right and whole again.  The Lord showed us in a very real way just how He will do that when He raised His beloved friend from the dead after He, too, had wept bitter tears.

May the love and prayers of your many friends bring you and your family much comfort.  I fervently pray that the “peace that passes all understanding” envelops each of you like a warm, soothing blanket.

Know that my love, my thoughts, and my heart are with you all.

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”
~ Psalm 91:1-2

"Be still--and know that I am God!"
~ Psalm 46:10

Griff was the epitome of a Man's-Man and we have been so Blessed to have met and enjoyed his, Carm and the Boy's company especially at ODU Panther football games. He will be sorely missed!
