Virgil L. Green
Virgil L. GreenFlagVirgil L. Green, 73 of Richwood, formerly of Caldwell, died early Sunday morning, September 4, 2016 at home.
He was born June 21, 1943 in Elba to the late William "Arthur" and Zella (Ward) Green.  He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Floyd and James Green and three sisters, Betty Larrick, Marie Lori, and Virginia Clark.

A 1963 graduate of Caldwell High School, he was a
veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in Vietnam and attaining the rank of Sergeant.   He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and The Army Commendation Medal for Heroism for his actions there.

He owned Green’s Timber in Caldwell for seven years before going to work for Lee Crock Construction in Caldwell.

He loved fishing at Delaware Lake and would often be seen fishing off Sanders Road by the creek, catching catfish.  He kept a record in a binder each year of how many fish were caught and what type.  He also enjoyed deer hunting in Caldwell and trapping muskrats and coon for the hides.  Virgil took pride in his lawn and always mowed at least twice a week, and more often when it rained.  He enjoyed gardening and canning many fruits and vegetables from the garden with his grandson, Hunter and teasing his grandaughter, Madison.  He loved building and tinkering, and loved his politics, but there was nothing he loved more than his two grandkids.

He is survived by a son, Virgil “Todd” (Jessica) Green, Richwood; two grandchildren, Madison and Hunter Green, Richwood; his former wife, Linda M. Phipps of North Lewisberg; three brothers, Glen Green, Eldon (Sonja) Green, Vernon Green, all of Caldwell; two sisters, Sandra Green; Ruth Henry, both of Caldwell; sisters-in-law, Lita Green, June Green, and Loretta Green, all of Caldwell.

Private family services will be held Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Floyd Radabaugh officiating.  Burial will follow in Price Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Union County Honor Guard.

Memorial gifts may be made to Loving Care Hospice, P. O. Box 613, Marysville, OH  43040.

I recall several fun times in late sixties with Virgil, a good friend and great guy. Fun times at Caldwell Pool Hall; also riding with Virgil around the Caldwell square late one night until policeman Ray Gould told him to slow down and stop running all the red lights; and Virgil throwing his car into reverse gear and smoking the tires several times one morning while driving forward at 40 mph in front of Beth Boyd's Store on Walnut St before school at CHS to impress our group of a dozen kids cheering him on ....just to name a few fond memories.

Todd and Family,
Virgil teased me all the time that we were both June babies and that we were special. Your father was a very special person. He served our country with distinguished honor. I can not think of a better neighbor than I had with Virgil. God has welcomed you home my friend. Now you may rest. What a privilege to have called you friend. I am sure Dad was waiting on you Virgil.
