Ruby J. Fox
Ruby J. FoxVioletRuby J. Fox 95 of Richwood, died June 5, 2016 at the Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland.  Beloved wife of the late Robert M. Fox, loving mother of Deborah (John) Lawyer, cherished grandmother of Michael Lawyer and Brittany Lawyer (Brian Klueber).

Ruby was born July 13, 1920 to the late C. W. Blue and Martha R. (Hall) Blue at home on the Winnemac Pike, Jackson Township, Union County, Ohio.  She was predeceased by sisters Mildred Blue and Ruth Hickman and brothers Glenn and Clair Blue.  In addition to her immediate family she is survived by several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Her name, Ruby, represented the fact that she was a jewel in the family.
In the previous two years her mother had been saddened by the death of her only sister, her mother, and her eldest daughter.  Ruby was now a companion for her sister, Ruth.

She and Ruth walked a short distance to the three room elementary school in West Jackson and later rode a school bus to Essex, where she graduated from the three year high school in 1937.  For the senior year she attended Richwood High School from which she graduated in 1938.  At Richwood she met her future husband, Robert M. (Bob) Fox.

Ruby and Bob were married August 10, 1940 with a lovely family wedding in the home in which she was born.  She and Bob lived their entire married life on East Boundary Rd. until his death on February 2, 2003.  She continued to reside at this location on Boundary Road until her heath failed in 2014 and she moved to the Cleveland area where she made her home with her daughter and family and their two little dogs that were her constant companions.

Ruby was a homemaker and farmer’s wife.  During planting and harvest season much of her time was spent cooking for farm hands or transporting grain to the elevator.  For a few years in her spare time she was an Avon Lady calling on clients in the area.

She was also active in the community.  In her youth she was a member of Essex Methodist Protestant Church.  In 1959 she joined the church of her husband’s family, the First Baptist Church of Richwood.  There she was a member of the American Baptist Women, Annie Richards and Paul Vick Missionary Circles.

At various times, she enjoyed membership in Carpe Diem, a Mother’s Study Group, a bridge club, and groups at the Civic Center where she volunteered in the dining room for many years.  She also helped by registering people when the Red Cross Blood Mobile came to town.  She and Bob also enjoyed membership in the Par Dance Studio of Marion.

Between planting and harvest, she and her family spent time fishing at Monson’s Hoist Bay Resort in Minnesota.  Sometimes winters were spent in Florida.

Funeral services will be held Saturday June 11, 2016 at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood at 11:00 am, Pastor Brian Owens will officiate, burial will follow in the Price Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home in Richwood

Memorial gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church, 101 E Ottawa St, Richwood OH 43344 or Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St Clair Ave, Cleveland OH 44110-2602.

Ruby Fox was a name that I heard often when I began working at the Civic Center. One day, close to two years ago a woman entered the building and it was none other than Ruby Fox! She was dressed so elegantly. I introduced myself and we walked through the Civic Center as we discussed her memories. How wonderful of her family to bring her in that day! Such a blessing for you as her family to have had her for so many years! May your memories comfort you.

I'll always remember your Mother Ruby as a dear friend. In 1966 I was a newly wed and new to the community and knew very few people. Then Ruby became my Avon lady and I knew that I had met the sweetest and nicest person ever. Rudy has always been special to me and I'm so thankful for her friendship. With Deepest Sympathy, Mary Howell

Ruby was my 2nd cousin, I believe.  I grew up in Dayton, OH, and did not know her well.  She was quite a bit my senior ... more my parents' age - (Donald Blue).  I remember her as a kind and pleasant woman.  The last time I saw her was in Dayton at my mother's birthday party, maybe 5 years ago.  Again, she was kind, pleasant, and caring.  Her mind seemed sharp.  I'm glad to have seen her there.  I offer my condolences to the family.

Aunt Ruby: My Favorite Aunt, for so many reasons: her open smile, her modest laugh, her sly sense of humor, her sharp sense of the moment-- nothing escaped her observation, and opinion. Ruby was our families' historian, keeping us all up, and straight on the family tree-and everyone else within viewing distance. I was impressed so often over the recent years on her memory and her enthusiasm to keep those facts straight, except I always had another inquiry as an excuse to visit her--and I looked fwd to our banter and her response. She lived a long life, happy as possible without her Bob but with her lovely grandchildren, her caregivers Deb & John, and her doggie. She was strong and elegant, and remembered.

Sympathy to Ruby's family, she was highly respected by my parent's and a credit to the community. She was truly a part of that great generation that is now 90 plus.

Grandma, your giggle, vibrancy, love and spirit will continue on in my life. It's been a true honor to be your granddaughter. I'll miss all of our late night talks, baking in the kitchen and our bedtime prayers, but the memories I have will be cherished forever. I love you.

I remember meeting Aunt Ruby when I came to Richwood in 1975 to meet my Ohio relatives.  She brought the most delicious food to our picnics, and she was always impeccably dressed.  As Dean says, she was SO SHARP! Nothing got past her, which must have been tough for you, Debbie - ha ha...  I developed an interest in genealogy, and whenever I'd get stuck on something, I'd as Ruby and she'd have the answer.  She was our family historian.  She was an amazing lady.  Here's to you, Ruby. ♥
