Dennis D. Gerfen |
Dennis D. Gerfen, 57 of Richwood died Tuesday morning, October 13, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family following a 2-year battle with cancer. He was born December 15, 1957 in Waldo to the late Paul and Bonnie (Sims) Gerfen. He was also preceded in death by a son, Todd Gerfen, a daughter, Heather Gerfen and a sister-in-law, Doris Gerfen.
On February 28, 1989 he married the former Marjorie A. Griffith in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waldo and she survives in Richwood.
A 1976 graduate of River Valley High School, he worked as a machinist at Magnetic Screw for 21 years. He later worked as a custodian for Richwood First United Methodist Church. Always keeping busy, he enjoyed being outside, mowing yards, plowing snow, or just talking to people.
He is survived by a son, Bobby Blumenschein II, Richwood; a daughter, Kim (Shane Ginn) Jerew, Richwood; four brothers, Allen Gerfen, Marion; Gary Gerfen, Marion; Richard (Betty) Gerfen, Waldo; Ronnie (Linda) Gerfen, Delaware; two sisters, Donna (Robert) Barkley, Ashley; Lisa (John) Authur, Marion; grandchildren, Alisha Bruce, Chance Jerew, Brad Jerew, Hunter Jerew, Wes Ginn, Brantley Jerew, Jayden Gregory, and Kyliann Jerew.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 16, 2015 at noon at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Joe Rhea officiating. Burial will follow in Claibourne Cemetery. Friends may call two hours prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM.

I'm sorry for your loss, Dennis was a fun man to be around. I know that elmer (uncle bubby) always had a great time when he was with all of you at the xmas. I'm sure there are a lot of hugging going on.

We both enjoyed working with Dennis at the church. He seemed to really care about the church and took good care of it. We are sorry for your loss and will miss Dennis very much.
