Don I. Ransome, 77, former resident of Richwood, died early Monday
morning, May 22, 2006, at his home in Lakeland, Fla., where he and his loving wife Doris had been residing for the last eight years after his stroke A 1947 graduate of Richwood High School, he was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired in 1988 as postmaster at the Richwood Post Office after 34 years of employment. He was president of the former Richwood Lions Club and trustee and lifelong member of Richwood First Baptist Church. He had attended the Schalamar Creek Community Church with Pastor Ford in Lakeland, and was a member of Mt. Carmel Lodge No. 303 F&AM of Richwood, member of VFW Post 870 in Richwood, and a former Richwood area Boy Scout leader and baseball coach. He had a passion for playing golf and was an original member of the "Sweet 16" golf group. He had played in several golf leagues through the years. He was born April 2, 1929, in Richwood, to the late William P. and Gladys M. Park Ransome. He also was predeceased by a daughter, Kim Asbury, and a brother, Paul Ransome. On Oct. 10, 1954, at Richwood First United Methodist Church, he married Doris Randall and she survives. Also surviving are a son, Chris (Becky) Ransome of Tokyo, Japan/Marysville, and their children, Christa and Evan Ransome; a son-in-law, Roy (Kim) Asbury of Marysville; a sister, Anna Lucille (Olin) Parish of Richwood; two brothers, Harold (Phyllis) Ransome of Euless, Texas, and Robert Ransome of Amherst; several nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, Bill (Donna) Randall of Auburndale, Fla. Calling hours will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood, where Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Richwood First Baptist Church with Pastors Barb Stevens and Gerald Bentley officiating. Burial will be in Claibourne Cemetery, where there will be veteran graveside services conducted by the Richwood Veterans. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Scholarship Fund and/or the North Union District Veteran's Memorial Fund. Cards will be available at the Funeral Home.
